Love Reins Ranch, located just west of Salem, Oregon, is an equine therapy facility with programs for children with challenges such as autism, bipolar disorder, cerebral palsy, and Down’s Syndrome. These programs, which include therapeutic riding and animal care, often result in significant psychological and physical improvements. Love Reins has seen a number of remarkable improvements in the lives of our young clients.
The program, staff, and volunteer are under the direction of Burning Bush board member Katie Evans who is very active in all areas of this ministry.
Kelsea Lynn Schult
Program Director, Art Director
Her experience and abilities include the development and execution of therapeutic equestrian activities for children with disabilities. Her approach integrates everything from traditional equine therapy techniques to individualized art lessons.
Before beginning her role as Program Director at Love Reins Ranch, Kelsea volunteered as a wildlife rehabilitator and spokesperson at Turtle Ridge Wildlife Refuge. There she medicated and rehabilitated injured and abandoned native wildlife to encourage safe release back into the wild. She also interned as a laboratory technician at The Dallas Animal Clinic where she first met Katie Evans while assisting with an onsite surgery on one of the trainer horses at Love Reins Ranch. Impressed with the equine therapy center, she became a volunteer which led to her joining the Love Reins staff.
Kelsea plans to attend Oregon State University in January 2013 to pursue a major in veterinary medicine, specializing in exotic medicine.
She graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Human Development and Family Science where she discovered her passion for working with people with special needs. She grew up riding horses and has witnessed the beautiful connection and healing power between humans and animals. Darcie lives in Salem with her extremely supportive husband and three animal children—two cats and a dog. She feels truly blessed for the special opportunity to work with such an amazing organization.
